Dear Jacqui,
By Jacqui

Question of the Week

Jacqui

Dear Jacqui,
Ok me and my bf have always had sex without a condom and now that we finally began using them afterwards my vagina burns and itches. I think I might be allergic to them so what can I do to have sex without having an allergic reaction and also be safe?
Martha

"We’re finally using condoms, but now my vagina burns "

Dear Martha:
You both made a good decision to have safe sex and that doesn't mean it has to be uncomfortable.

Many condom brands incorporate Nonoxynol which is a spermicidal. Unfortunately, a great many people are allergic to this particular chemical and I suspect that is why you experience itching and a burning sensation after intimacy. Ask your boyfriend to buy a brand of condoms which does not contain any chemical additives.

Also, use a couple of drops of Very Private Intimate Moisture before intimacy to protect your delicate vaginal tissue. Many women are sensitive to penetration with a condom. If the discomfort continues, I suggest you see a gynecologist just to make sure your symptoms are not related to another condition.
