Dateable.Com Launch Signals New Source for All
Things Romantic on the Web
Personal Lifestyle Portal Site Launches In Time
for Valentines Day
Washington, D.C., January 11, 1999 A new
portal site whose motto is "relate, date, and mate", Dateable.Com
(www.dateable.com) offers a comprehensive
and full community experience for its visitors, embracing every sector of
the population in search of romantic fulfillment, information, adventure,
or just plain fun. The site is designed on a central hub model by which an
impressive array of romance/relationship-oriented resources and services
are offered, including advice columns, free user editorials, contests, games,
sweepstakes, even free Web-page design services for individuals wishing to
promote an event. Dateable.com also delivers a comprehensive database of
personal-oriented Web sites on a wide variety of topics.
"The Internet has enormous potential to pull people together
through shared interests and passions, but it can also be an extremely isolating
medium," said Jennifer Klein, a veteran Web designer who created Dateable.Com
to fill what she saw as "a disturbing gap in the volume and quality of personal
lifestyle resources presently available on the Web." Klein added, "the personal
sites currently out there are specialized in terms of their content and their
audience. I wanted to see a central, inclusive, shared community that reflects
and represents the real cross-section of people online today singles,
couples, straight and gay who are seeking vehicles for anonymous
self-expression, and tools for information and enlightenment. So I built
one."
Exploding Power of the Internet
Dateable.Com arrives on the cyber-scene as measures of
the Internets human impact and related usage are skyrocketing. A recent
survey conducted by market research Company, Ovum, predicted that the number
of people with Internet access worldwide will quadruple by 2005. In its report
titled "Internet Market Forecasts: Global Internet Growth 1998-2005," Ovum
forecasts 206 million dial-up connections and 17.5 million permanent connections
in the year 2005. Its clear that the Internet has become an important
staple of modern life. According to a domestic study on user trends conducted
by Roper Starch and AOL, 77 percent of American
Internet users say that having Internet access has improved their lives.
Further, 44 percent described the Net as an essential part of their lives.
American women are also taking their place online: According to the Consumer
Internet Economy study from Jupiter Communications, the female portion of
the online population will gradually grow toward the national average of
51.2 percent. Jupiter estimates that females will make up 44 percent of the
total online audience by 2000, and 45.1 percent by 2002.
